We stopped at the port of Alexandria, Egypt.  They advised us to purchase an excursion through Royal Carribean, since navigating through Egypt can be tricky.

Egypt is far from a first world country, so I'm not surprised that Cairo was unclean.

Your experiences with people trying to sell you stuff reminds me a lot of Mexico. It's a little uncomfortable, how in-your-face they can be.
