The Rules
1. Oz characters, please. Crossovers with the usual suspects are also welcome (SVU, Wanted, Homicide, Fringe, Lost, The Wire, The Unusuals, etc).
2. Het, slash, gen. Any character or pairing. It's all good.
3. Drabble (100 words) is a suggestion. You won't get shanked if you do a double drabble or it runs a bit long.
4. Your drabble must be posted as a comment to this entry.
5. Include a word, phrase or sentence from a previous drabble in the tree. Put it in the subject line and bold it in your drabble.
6. You can riff on any drabble in the tree. Just reply to the drabble you're riffing from.
7. Write as many drabbles as you want.
8. Drabbles only, please. No comments. Show your appreciation by jumping off someone else's drabble.
9. You can leave comments for the writers at the announcement post at
oz_rapsheet.
10. The Drabble Tree will run for a week or two; if there's enough interest, we'll keep it running longer. When it's over, post your drabbles to your own LJ and/or archive them.
11. RPS is allowed; please put RPS in the header of your drabble. If you don't want to read RPS, then pay attention to the headers. (NOTE: LJ Doesn't have subject lines any more? So please put information at the top of your drabble.)
12. Have fun! :D
Starter Ficlet
"Diane, would you mind posting these on your way out?"
Her mother stuffed some folded papers into an official looking envelope with the words You Too Can Be A Winner!!! emblazoned across the flap.
"C'mon, Ma, I'm already running late. Hurry up, DeeDee."
DeeDee put another spoonful of Cheerios in her mouth, and chewed slowly. Diane sighed, and decided to make herself a second cup of coffee. It was already shaping up to be a two cup morning, at minimum.
"It won't take a minute to put these in the mailbox."
"All right, all right, just hurry," Diane said, taking a gulp of her coffee.
Diane leaned against the counter, and watched her mother fill out another form, then stamp, and seal it into an envelope. She'd been sending in sweepstakes, and contest entries for as long as Diane could remember, in spite of the fact that the only thing she'd ever won was some junk jewelry, and a toaster that only lasted a week before it had to be thrown out. She'd never lost the hope that one day, she'd hit it big.
There'd been too many crushing disappointments in Diane's life for her to hope for anything big any more. She kept her dreams small, and reasonable, like getting a car that didn't break down every other Tuesday, or saving enough money to pay for DeeDee's teeth, because it was already apparent that she was going to need braces, and soon.
DeeDee finished her cereal, and put her bowl in the sink.
"Okay, let's go. Get your books," she told DeeDee. Diane put down her empty coffee cup, and reached for the stack of envelopes in front of her mother.
"This one's special," her mother said, patting the letter on top. "It's a three week trip to London!"
"Yeah, right," Diane mumbled, turning away. "That'll be the day."
