[glances at Max, who's lower lip may fall off] No, he's helping. But, [glances at Tyler, though she's talking to Max] he doesn't get to have fun today. Today, he works.

[she knows that Max's chores aren't that difficult, but it's the only thing she and El could come up with as a punishment, until they sat down with Garrett and Rebecca]

[nods to Tyler] Thank you. [looks at Max until the eight-annual-old looks up at her; nods for him to go]

[catches up to Max; waves to him] Hey, Max! C'mere, kiddo. [he sits on a bench near the barn]

[turns at his name; glances toward the house] I gotta do my chores. [watches Tyler for a moment then moves to him]

I know, but here I'm the boss. [pats the empty spot next to him] Sit with me so we can talk.

[huffs, figuring Tyler wants to talk about yesterday; sits on the bench] Mommy told you what I did.

[sees her standing at the window; clears his throat so he doesn't scare her]
