*sharpening hunting knife on a whetstone*

[cutting through to the kitchen, spots Garrett] Are you allowed to even have that thing within property boundaries? [smirks]

[garrett_cain]

*glances up; smiles* Hey, we're allowed steak knives, so...

[cj_cain]

Oh. [nods] Hunting steak?

[garrett_cain]

Well, you never know. It's good to be prepared. *checks the sharpness, then runs the blade over the whetstone* So, what brings you here and how's the baby?

[cj_cain]

[returns to the Florida house about three minutes later, with a freshly-ointment and diapered Thomas; speaking quietly to him] This is your first trip to the Other Side. [notices the look on the baby's face and makes his own face] You don't care, do you? Well, it's a big deal. [nods] Now, where... [realizes Garrett isn't where he left him ; raises an eyebrow and glances around] Daaaad?

[garrett_cain]

[explores the refrigerator for something to eat. Hears CJ call out to him.] In the kitchen!

[cj_cain]

[turns and makes a face at Thomas] Kitchen.

[wanders in a moment later] Anything good in there?

[garrett_cain]

Well, I'm thinking of finishing off my blackened fish tacos. [pulls out the container and turns, sees the baby] Oh, hey! [grins]

[cj_cain]

[makes waving motion at his head with one hand, as if he's swatting flies away] Save that for the wedding night. [makes a face] Oh, wait.

[garrett_cain]

[starts to laugh, chokes on a mouthful of taco; waves his hand that he's okay then drinks his beer] I'll be fine. [he says trying to suppress a cough]

[cj_cain]

[raises an eyebrow, not that there's really much he can do with an arm full of baby] You sure about that?

[garrett_cain]

[nods as he coughs, drinks more of his beer] Positive. [wipes his eyes] Just need a minute.

[cj_cain]

[nods] I've seen some things. [gives Garrett a look] Never. Ever. Get on 'line's bad side. [grimaces and shakes his head] But, she'd clearly been working on this one for a while, because they had stuff planned down to the moment. Still not sure [shakes his head] how they sent us back, or how they figured out how stuff started, well.. now-ish. Cave and all. [nods; counts off on his fingers] Mom's back in the Gale, for the first time; you guys all start showing up, which.. have to admit, wasn't as weird as I expected it to be. [scrunches his nose] First time El showed up.. [glances at the counter and drifts slightly; nods] that was a little weird.

[garrett_cain]

[nods] Trust me, I won't. She could blast me into next week. [softly smiles] And you had to keep it all a secret.

[cj_cain]

[smiles back; quietly] I didn't know her all that well, first time around. She wasn't around much [shakes his head] and then she was... unavailable. [glances at Garrett for a moment; smiles] I think she thinks I hate her. [nods] Which I don't, I just... [shakes his head and winces] haven't really gotten to know her yet? [shakes his head again, unsure if that's the right way to explain the friction] I mean, I'm getting to know her, but, it's.. [sighs and makes the same face El makes when she's frustrated] a work in progress.

[makes another face and reaches for his beer]

I hear ya on that. I have the same kind of relationship with Iz, much like Wyatt's relationship with her. [points his beer at CJ before taking another sip]
