A lot of people have gotten bitten, it's not something to be taken so lightly. I don't know the details of what happens but it's only going to get worse and worse.

Unohana knows more since she is treating people, but if it works like a severe fever, which seems to be the case, your temperature will continue to go up, you'll get aches, nausea, a cough [she says that part pointedly], sore throat, and if it's not treated a possible infection.
