The dress is, of course, as described in viva_gloria's Crimson and other stories. Who knows? If Will had become Jack's cabin boy, he might have had a chance to try it on too.

he’d had more passionate. He’d also had more belligerent, - These lines delight me and suggest some of Jack's many untold stories.
But Jack’s better selves had made a deal with Will - early indication of Jacks! :D
a fifth bright side there, or possibly sixth. Eighthly, - "Eight, eight, I forgot what eight was for..." Sorry, Violent Femmes was the first thing to pop into my head there.
altogether too much like his own memories of Hector for comfort - I always did think Jack sounded unnecessarily snotty there. Thanks for explaining. ;)
admirably feasible schemes - Yes, it's definitely someone else's fault that Jack's perfect schemes go awry.
Snuggled up to the commodore in his little row boat - :D ( ... )

I've said it before but I LOVE that userpic.

Jack was about to say that it was an easy mistake and the lad hadn’t been the first to make it
PRICELESS!
“We’re going to rescue Elizabeth: nothing else matters.”
Jack reflected that, as morning-after declarations went, he’d had more passionate. He’d also had more belligerent, however, so he smiled and nodded.
And so is that. I love that water-off-a-duck's-back, could-be-worse attitude of Jack's. As seen later on, in his enumeration of all the potential bright sides. Totally him!
a large, and dangerously pointy Agenda Snort.
But Jack’s better selves had made a deal with Will to save the girl, even if it cost the lad’s life (which turned out handy since that did seem to be the obvious way to go about things). I like this for itself, 'cos it's funny, but also the idea of bringing in all those selves who turned up in AWE; it's a nice bit of knitting, Mrs.
It's ALL a nice piece of knitting. I love it, and you're fabulous.
