Cycling Week 5

Week five saw the first MASSIVE faluire along the cycling adventure. You remember the rain on saturday, yeah? We were in that. The plan - get a train to whitam (past chemlsford) and cycle home. At forst it was fine. Then it wasn't. The main problem was directions.... our whole route was based on navigating via GPS, and whether the device wasn't fit for purpose, or whether the people using it were unable to use it (both theories are available), what happened was we got lost. ALOT.

In the end, after cycling for 4 hours in the miserable miserable rain, we gave up, cycled to the nearest train staiton (even that was 30 mins cycle away) and jumped on the train. Even so we did 38 miles (if we'd managed to stick to the planned route we would have done 43 miles). Average speed, less than 8mph 9I'll need to best 12mph for 9 hours in order to complete the ride 100 before they close the finish line and I get a DNF. FAIL FAIL FAIL MASSIVE FAIL

This sunday we're entering a 50 mile race across cambridgeshire. I'm officially scared of another faiure. I don;t know what it is, but this week's bike commutes have been *horrible*.... well the morning ones have been. In the old days on the fold up I could cycle in without physically exerting myself too much. This week, but only in the mornings, my body had felt like it's run out of energy within 15 minutes and the rest of the cycle has been sheer-force-of-will stuff. Nothing different about my diet etc.

Either way we will see
