Assorted chums, I'm sorry to be doing this (and feel free to remind me that I said I absolutely wouldn't do this but is there any chance any of you would be willing to sponsor me for the London Ride 100 thing?
Basically I'm £95 quid from reaching the total I need, I've got exactly one month to raise the money, and I've got an almost passive aggressive message on the voicemail from someone from the red cross, reminding me that I'm a little way off the total.
If there any way I can convice you of the trauma of my plight, in an attempt to get you to sympathise enough to part with cash.... then I've been given my start time - and I need to be at the start line at 6am, and that mean that - in order to cycle their, warm up and eat the sort of breakfast I'll need, that I will have to get up at 4am on the morning of the race. Also they're being remarkably militant about the maximum time you're allowed to take to complete the course - 9 hours - and if you don't make the pace, you'll be pulled off (as it were) - i.e if I don't reach mile 93 (the last checkpoint) before 8 hours and 20 minutes, then I won't be allowed to finish.....
