When last we entered my study to see what the Technomantically Prescient Bookshelves.... OF DOOOOM!!!! would manifest to me as "need to re-read, right now" offerings, I wanted a memoir, but my shelves outvoted me.

This time, they cooperated. They pushed out Craig Ferguson's AMERICAN ON PURPOSE, and it was the absolutely right thing to re-read ( Read more... )

The shelves erred tonight, however. I'd forgotten how depressing Madeleine L'Engle's first novel THE SMALL RAIN is. Not meant for bathtub unwindery.

I'm always pleased that Craig Ferguson is doing so well in America but I also tend to forget how big he is over there. He's sort of known a bit in Scotland but he is really unknown in England. I was a huge fan of his comedy when he started out and actually went to see him at a comedy club in Scotland and he was very funny.

I need to read this book. I love him and his sincerity and joy so much.

(I even saw the movie he made about growing marijuana--a cute-as-hell film, by the way)

Hah I gave that book to my boyfriend as a bday present. He's a huge fan. I've been meaning to read it myself! I'd love to see what he'll be doing now that he's quitting his show.
