Do what you want to do. Don't let money be the issue here. If you really do want to go into law, but you have the urge to make money, contract law is good, as is litigation. Also, try working for the other side of the law- criminal defense (hey, some innocent guys need a good lawyer to prove that they didn't do anything bad.) Or divore attorney (for those who have no shame.) Working for a big company, they always need lawyers. As for the law school thing, if you're afraid of people being dicks, then I'll go to the same law school and get them back for you.
Hey Paul, don't worry about the money! Who needs lots of money anyways?
Did you ever think of maybe being a record producer? That is, if you're serious about wanting to sit around and critique music all the time. That has the potential to make a lot of money, plus you get some control over the music industry if you're successful (which would suck for those of us who like good music, hah...I'm kidding...sort of).
Hey now, I wouldn't say everybody in college knows where they're heading. I, for one, do not. Well, maybe it's just us then. Damn.
But everyone is right about not worrying about the money thing. I'm one to talk, being pretty obsessed with getting a fat salary myself. But the fact is, you have to realize you're much more likely to start out somewhere closer to the middle. My theory is, don't count on getting that miracle job that has the big money. Get the job you want, be the best at it, and earn what you're worth that way. Knowing how competitive a debator you are, I have no doubt you could be a prosperous and successful lawyer in any branch of law. So do what you most want to do and you'll be happy anyway.
