In fastfood nation the book talks a lot about these issues. Its a good book. I recomend it to you.

heather- do you remember those popsicle-like dessert things in elementary school lunches? they were in an interesting geometric shape- 4 sides, and each side is a triangle (no, not a pyramid). anyway, those were tasty. and this reminded me of them.

and... this makes me really angry, and i'm not sure i want to raise kids in the us.

i know what you are talking about! they were colored sugar water....probably low-fat. they were tricky to eat, sometimes they'd just leap out of the packaging!

I do remember I loved them. I always hated when they had grape flavored, I've never liked grape.

i never went to elementary school, i never got the joy... :(
