Earlier that morning, Wilson had woken up with a mild headache. He had taken some aspirin and tried to ignore it but by the time he got into work it was getting progressively worse, like a clamp tightening around his skull. A tension headache… no surprise that the aspirin did nothing to help ( ... )

House hadn’t seen Wilson leave his office, so when Wilson stepped into the elevator it was House’s turn to freeze as he stared at Wilson. Luck would have it that no one else was in the elevator or was going to alight it with Wilson and himself, and when the doors started to shut, House looked away from Wilson with the intention of ignoring him ( ... )

It took a moment for what House meant about the nurses to penetrate the painful fog in Wilson’s head, during which he only stared at House uncomprehendingly. When the meaning did finally become clear, Wilson was too much in pain to even work up the slightest bit of resentment. For House anyway, it was a fairly weak shot.

Wilson knew what House was trying to do anyway - to bait him in some sort of misguided attempt to justify how he was behaving himself. Wilson looked at House a moment longer before focusing on the elevator doors. There was no way he was rising to the bait, even though part of him wanted to lash out at House just as badly as House apparently wanted to lash out at him. If it wasn’t for his headache, Wilson probably would have returned the fire.

It was, Wilson was sure, House’s fault that he had the damn headache in the first place. It wasn’t surprising at all that he’d get a tension headache when he’d spent the last two days in a state of tension, waiting for House to come to him, to call him, to do something. Of ( ... )

"Oh, schedule. Right," House replied snidely. "I didn't know you were running on such a tight schedule. Had I known, I would've kept my mouth shut. Want to pencil me in for four-thirty? Or does that clash with your one-on-one Department Head meeting with Cuddy?"

It seemed the moment House had opened his mouth, he was unable to stop himself from letting the vitriol loose. Just the talking alone was causing a bubble of anger to rise in the pit of his gut. He knew if he didn't shut up he'd end up saying something that he'd probably regret -- but right at this very moment, he didn't care.

Looking at Wilson properly, House noticed the way he seemed to be grimacing as though he was in pain, which made House realise that Wilson had a headache.

Just to be a childish, indignant asshole, he added in a loud voice to aggravate Wilson's apparent headache, "Oh, I'm sorry -- did you want me to repeat any of that a little louder for you?"

It turned out, after the second fundoscopy, the kid had shadows on the retina -- which House discovered, after ordering a CT scan of the kid's brain, were retinal haemorrhages. He noticed the falx of the brain was prominent, the white shadow on the scans indicating the kid was haemorrhaging on the brain. The first conclusion that House came to was that the kid had been severely shaken, gathering from the cerebral edema present on the brain and a slight midline shift in the prosterior region. Foreman had argued that House was jumping to conclusions -- that the haematoma could've eventuated from any number of causes still uninvestigated, but House refused to listen -- he ordered for the team to keep a close watch on the parents, to take note of any unusual behaviour around the kid ( ... )

The last thing Wilson expected was a knock on his door later that night, though the way his day had gone he supposed he probably shouldn’t have been so surprised ( ... )

House half-expected Wilson not to answer the door. In fact, as he stood outside the door, waiting for Wilson to answer (or not answer), House debated to himself why he was here. He ran through his mind things he could say to perhaps ease the situation, and nothing seemed right. He almost felt like an idiot, standing there with no idea what to do or say, no idea how to better the situation, no idea of anything ( ... )

Wilson stared back at House and didn’t immediately reply or make any move to either open or close the door. It was impossible to tell by House’s expression why he’d come, though it was something that he wasn’t trying to force himself through the door at least.

For a brief flash, Wilson had déjà vu - remembering when House had shown up at the hotel he’d been staying at under similar circumstances. The memory made Wilson feel heavy. Was it always going to be like this between them? Was there any such thing as a happy ending? Or just… happiness?

“I’m not in the mood to fight,” Wilson stated, opening the door another couple of inches. “But, if you promise to actually behave like an adult for once, by talking reasonably, then you can come in,” Wilson said. “Otherwise… no, I’m not going to let you in.”

“Yeah… all right,” Wilson said, thinking things would probably be more comfortable in his bedroom. And since he was going to get up anyway, they might as well move in there ( ... )

When House moved off the sofa, he yanked his jeans back up over his hips though didn't do them up. He made his way through to Wilson's bedroom, and then pushed his jeans down, sitting on the edge of the bed to pull them from his legs. His stomach felt tight with apprehension and he propped his elbows on his knees and rubbed his face with his hands. He had no idea where this was going. He'd come to Wilson's apartment to try and work things out with him, and now here he was, in Wilson's bedroom while Wilson was fetching whatever it was from the bathroom to aid House in doing whatever it was they were going to do together. Wasn't this a bit soon? Where they even ready for... whatever it was they were going to do ( ... )

Wilson’s erection had faded too, but it only took House’s hand on his ass to start warming him up again - in all senses of the word. He rocked his hips slowly in against House’s and sighed at the feel of House’s hand travelling over his body. Wilson put a hand on the House’s thigh, just below his hip, and rubbed it absently while returning the kiss ( ... )

House felt as uncertain as Wilson looked. As much as he could see that it was more than just uncertainty that Wilson was looking at him with, House felt almost certain that Wilson was going to say no. Or... something. But then Wilson was moving onto his front and House felt his own conflicting emotions go through him. Especially when Wilson spread his legs, as if he was inviting whatever it was that was going to happen ( ... )
