Taking the Tiger by the Tail

Who: House, Wilson
Where: Chez House
What: A necessary conversation
When: evening, 15 May (later in the same day Wilson and Cuddy talked)

Incomplete

Wilson locked his car door, then turned to stare at the entrance to 221, tossing his keys in his hand. He and House had done a good job of avoiding each other ever since Wilson had walked in on House and Cuddy's argument on Saturday, and part of him wanted to go on avoiding House. Part of him wanted to get back in the car and go...pretty much anywhere but here.

Which would solve exactly nothing. Wilson didn't like talking any more than House did. He was no better at emotional intimacy when it came right down to it, a fact his ex-wives would gladly attest to. However, talking to Cuddy had made Wilson realize that not talking to House was only going to make matters worse. Maybe if they'd talked earlier, about their thoughts, about things like trust, maybe those issues wouldn't be coming back to bite them in the ass now.

Wilson knew that trying to talk to House about the stuff that really mattered wouldn't be easy, but he was afraid that if they didn't talk, he was going to lose House, as a lover and possibly even as a friend. House meant too much to him. This relationship--fucked up as it was--meant too much to him. He felt like he had no choice but to beard the lion in his den, take the bull by the horns.... He had to talk to House.

Mind made up, Wilson shoved his keys in his pocket and marched up to House's door. Heaving a deep sigh, he reached up and knocked sharply on the door.

house, wilson
