Round Two

Who: House, Cuddy (closed)
Where: Cuddy's office
What: It's probably about time they confronted each other again. Or talked. Whichever happens first.
When: Thursday 18th May, 11am.

“Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy,” House announced, slapping the file on Cuddy’s desk.

The experiment House had demanded the fellows execute had proven to work -- Chase had reported back to him that he and Cameron observed the mother while she was unawares. She hadn’t fed the kid food, but she had opened one of the sachets of salt and finger-fed small amounts of salt into her son’s mouth. That was all the evidence House needed.

The easy part was over. The difficult part was coming to Cuddy’s office. Since his evening with Wilson, House felt less insecure about what was between them. The few days that lapsed between that evening and this morning gave House enough time to think over his confrontation with Cuddy the previous Saturday, and while he didn’t like thinking about it, he was thinking about it more rationally.

He just wasn’t sure how he was going to go about fixing the situation between Cuddy and himself. More to the point, he found himself wanting to know how she was coping after what had happened with the stalker. He’d gotten so caught up in his own insecurities that he didn’t even give consideration to how she was coping, and House didn’t like the feeling of guilt that came with that realisation.

This development with his case gave him good reason to approach her, because it gave him an option of pretending nothing happened between them if he found the tension too uncomfortable to deal with. Pretending nothing had happened was as good an option to House, if not better, than working this situation out with her.

Which was why, without letting himself think too much into it, he’d made his way down to her office and barged in, in typical fashion, as if everything was normal. But now he was here, his case dealt with as far as he was concerned -- he’d done everything he could for the kid, so there was nothing more for him to do -- House suddenly didn’t want to leave it at that. If he and Wilson couldn’t ignore what happened with Cuddy, then there was no way he was going to be able to ignore it with Cuddy herself.

He glanced over his shoulder at the door and then back at Cuddy, and added after a pause, “We need to talk.”
