Late for work

Who: House, Cuddy (closed)
Where: Cuddy's office
What: House is about three hours late to work
When: Monday 22nd May, the day after House and Wilson return from Atlantic City. Just after midday.

House stepped into the entrance of the hospital and came to a reluctant stop as he looked across at Cuddy’s office.

He was meant to be at work at nine. He glanced down quickly at his watch. Ten minutes past midday. Oops. He dropped his arm back to his side and looked back to Cuddy’s office again, hoisting the strap of his bag onto his shoulder to a more comfortable position. He hadn’t overslept, though he did wake up feeling very tired. Tired from the weekend or tired from the night before, he wasn’t sure. He had a vague memory of Wilson pressing a kiss to his lips and saying something about needing to head off to work. He’d apparently rolled over and gone straight back to sleep because when he woke up again, Wilson was gone.

Whatever Cuddy was doing in her office, she appeared engrossed. Now would be a good time to make a break for it, head upstairs before Cuddy saw him and demanded to know where he’d been. Not that he had any work to do, really - apart from a possible clinic shift, which he might've conveniently forgot he had.

Juggling the strap of his helmet with the handle of his cane, he adjusted his bag on his shoulder again and glanced towards the elevator before looking back to Cuddy’s office. His last encounter with Cuddy had been so… House didn’t like to think about it. He’d felt so awkward and guilty, and Cuddy snapping at him only made it worse. Sure, she’d thanked him for trying to talk to her, but that didn’t necessarily make him feel any better. He sighed, then headed towards the door and pushed it open, followed by the door to her office without knocking.

“Hey,” he greeted a little awkwardly.
