One good thing about the fact that a case had been found was that it gave House an excuse to keep busy over the weekend. At first, he’d paid no attention to Chase when the case was presented to him, Chase arguing the reasons why this case was worthwhile looking into. Chase had persisted -- either because he was bored shitless and truly wanted anything to work on -- or because it actually was a case worth considering. Even when Chase mentioned the pulmonary haemorrhage, House was reluctant to take the case on, only becoming interested when Chase mentioned that Michelle had renal failure.
After a quick differential, House demanded that she be started on amoxicillin to begin with, arguing that she be treated for pneumonia and her medication increased in strength if symptoms increased in severity, and 500mg of Ciprofloxacin to treat her renal condition. The only thing he had then was to wait to see if her symptoms worsened; he ordered a blood panel, urine work up and an imaging of her chest which, when it returned, revealed bilateral diffuse and hazy infiltrates with fine nodular appearances. He ordered another image of her chest the following day, on the Sunday, which revealed that the nodules had spread, showing a decent amount of fluid or thickening in the fissures of the right lung. Remnants of the pulmonary haemorrhage, accompanied with the nodules that seemed to have increased in number. It was the nodules that caught House’s attention -- he needed an oncologist’s point of view on it. Which meant…
On the Monday, House caught sight of Wilson a couple of times in the corridor or down by the clinic, though House made no effort to talk to him or approach him. Even though he wanted to and even though he needed to in order to present to Wilson Michelle’s case. House pondered getting Chase to go in and talk to Wilson, though that was likely to pique Chase’s curiosity as to why House couldn’t go in on his own to talk to Wilson. Which was why, after lunch, House decided to steel himself and ask for Wilson’s opinion. It only had to be a professional opinion, that was all. Professional and then he could be done with it.
Clutching the x-ray image in his hand, House made his way reluctantly out of his office and headed towards Wilson’s, hoping that Wilson was with a patient. If he was with a patient he could ignore him and not bother with the consult regarding Michelle’s chest cavity. When he approached Wilson’s office, however, he saw that the door was ajar and he couldn’t hear any voices coming from the other side of the door. He sighed and glanced around him before he hesitantly rapped on the door, feeling too awkward to just barge into his office like he normally would’ve, otherwise.
