Oh! Oh! Oh! I went to my first roller derby tonight. It was The Black & Bluebells (bluebells being the floral emblem of the A.C.T) vs The Surly Griffins (named after Walter Burly Griffin - the american designer of the 'city' of Canberra). I cheered for the Surly Griffins as my friend knows a girl who skates for them. They won! Yay

When I was growing up the national anthem used to be played at the end of films in cinemas. Our elders were totally unimpressed at how quickly we managed to get to the exit, whilst the adults half heartedly stood to attention. My lack of respect for the monarchy has not dwindled since then.

I support the monarchy but I'm not a fan of "God Save The Queen", mainly because the second verse is racist and anti-Scottish (I'm not Scottish, but I'm a lifelong Scotiaphile and my fiancee is of Scottish descent).
