There are places you can send used batteries to. There actually is some battery fluid still in there and throwing them away the normal way can cause toxic contamination.

mhmmmm you can find battery donation places that dispose of them properly. my mom always keeps a really big bag of used batteries until it's full, then she takes them somewhere. your school might even have a box, a lot of schools do.
