Dear Terry Jones, would you like some water to wash your hands with?
The reports from Northern Afghanistan claim at least 8 people have been killed during an attack on the UN compound. It occurred during the protest over the burning of the Koran in an US church. Pastor Terry Jones, who came to world’s attention last year, when he announced his plan (later aborted) to burn the Koran on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, was at the burning and currently is denying all responsibility.
This makes me so blind with rage my hands are actually shaking as I type. You will have to excuse the ranting and the swearing.
Dear Mr Jones, I have got news for you. You are responsible for those people dying today. Yes, you are right, when you say "they used the Koran burning as an excuse to promote their violent activities". Yes, they did. What the fuck did you think would happen??? If I recall correctly, last year when you announced your plans to mark the 9/11 attacks in your own special way, you were told by the whole world, including your own president, that it would have grave consequences and possibly lead to extreme violence. They are saying two people have been beheaded. I hope you are happy now.
You say you had “Judge the Koran” day and found it guilty and punished it by burning. Firstly, how can it “be guilty”, it’s a fucking book, you moron! Secondly, if you want to play childish games, do you know what they say about people living in glass houses? You’re a pastor. The Bible doesn’t exactly smell of roses (I say this as a Catholic). Thirdly, I really thought that Western society left behind burning books we don’t agree with, when we left the Middle Ages.
Lastly, if the Koran offends you so much that you wanted to burn it, it is your right to do so. On your own. In your own back yard. However, that didn’t give you enough satisfaction. You wanted the world’s media to watch, even though you have been warned, numerous times, by people far smarter than you, about the consequences. You wanted attention. Guess what, buddy, once your actions become public, you are responsible for the consequences those actions bring! Public profile equals increased responsibilities. If you are in the position where people will do something because of your words or actions, it is YOUR DUTY to think things through.
You wanted to burn a book. People died because you are an ignorant fool who refused to listen to good advice. I hope you sleep peacefully tonight.
