Update of doom

"I would buy every Shins album ever made if it made me one iota as cute as Natalie Portman was in that movie." -Kasey, m'roommate. People who act cute just so people will think they are cute drive me absolutely insane. Mostly because I used to do that, and in a way I still do, just not as much/blatantly. This is one of the reasons I didn't enjoy ( Read more... )

Yes, pointers are a pain in the ass, no? But they do permit some really crafty coding that would otherwise be nearly impossible. Plus there's the benefit of having a more fundamental understanding of the inner workings of computers. (yay?)

I'm sure I told you about my class from hell last quarter - all the coding in that class was in C and was heavily dependent on pointers, which was a main reason for my lack of sleep. So yes, I do indeed feel your pain.

Nah, pointers are nifty. They were just uneccessary for this program. And no, you didn't. Sounds lame though.

A friend of mine told me it's considered a real programming language once you "had enough rope to hang yourself with." With pointers, I've finally reached that point. =D

Teehee. While it may have been unnecessary, be glad you didn't need to write a 700-line parsing function, mess with pointers to functions, or any of that nitty-gritty crap. If you want a real exercise in that stuff though, I recommend taking an embedded systems course. We were forced to use C because there is very little overhead, even though it's "outdated" by today's languages. And when you're done with the course, you'll know you've become a true C badass :)

Glaven!
