Re. family relations after the big move-out: In my family, the way it works is that as long as my brother and I come over for dinner one or twice a week, our parents are happy. Hopefully the same will work for you.
Of course, in my family, my brother didn't move out until he was 28, and by that time my parents were sort of thinking it was about time for him. (I moved out when I got into grad school out of state at 22; I've stayed at their place for a few weeks a couple times since, but never on anything that threatened to become a permanent basis. At 22 I'm not sure my mom was really ready for me to leave; but at 28, when I finished grad school and got a job back in the area, my dad said that I could live at home and pay rent like my brother was doing if I wanted, but that he thought it would better for me if I got my own place. I quite agreed-- having been out of the house once, it's not entirely comfortable moving back even for a few weeks.)
