Good Luck getting your stuff down from Philadelphia and a lighting rod up. It’s a little disconcerting how our lives become one large task list once we get a house, isn’t it?
Funny you mentioned invasive species. This weekend I was weeding and whacked a larger short shrub (3’ diameter) in my rush to get things under control. I felt a little guilty because I should know better then to kill something just because I don’t know what it is. I am really hoping it was invasive, since it was in a 30’ long flower bed created by the former owner there’s a chance it was.
Now on the other hand, I will not have any problem wiping out the starling nest I saw in the eaves of my house last night.
Might've been Privet, or less likely multiflora Rose. Garden center still sell things like that with impunity.
Multiflora rose is a boon to bird species in general, though. Predators like snakes, rats and raccoons can't get to nests inside the thickets for all the thorns.
That assumes, of course, that you have birds worth saving. Lotta Starlings and Cowbirds in this area.
