Emil discovered the Plane on the way to Palmacosta and quickly made some friends, many of whom were curious about the state of his world. He bonded with Roxas (sunkenlight) fairly quickly due to similar situations, and then they accidentally got drunk off some 'bad water' that Emil found in the bar. GJ, Shounen Fail.
Another important friend he made was the Tenth Doctor (salvagestime) who took special interest in Emil's world, his failing memory, and the fact that he couldn't fight by himself.

After Asgard, Emil and Marta paid a short visit to Hakonesia Peak on the way to Palmacosta. There, they barely avoided Alice and discovered she was laying a trap for them. Emil also had a vision of Richter attacking him, and cried out -- all triggered by the sight of the Vanguard flag. Confused and bewildered at what he just witnessed, he and Marta continued on. A merchant named Koton informed them that Richter was trading him artifacts.
After that, they went to Palmacosta to find a ferry. They split up, and Emil ran into Richter, who defended him from that sadist Alice. Emil was shocked to discover that Richter was in the Vanguard, but still refused to believe that he was a bad person... Why does he keep making friends with ex-terrorists, anyway? Richter's appearance and words spawned questions of where his loyalty lied and what the Vanguard wanted exactly with the Cores.
Emil and Marta discovered that heavy storms on the seas were making it impossible for sailors to go out. They visited the Governor-General's widow, Mrs. Dorr, who didn't seem to recognize Emil but relented anyway. Apparently there was a fisherman-- Emil's old neighbor-- who had gone to find the source of the problem and never returned. They decided to go after Thomas.
On the way out, Richter attacked. Emil defended against him, but could have been in far worse shape had a mysterious red-haired man not interfered and utterly astonished all the people present. Marta expressed concerns that he could have been the Chosen of Tethe'alla, but they decided he was far too rude and arrogant and whatnot for that, and moved on.
Emil and co. set out for Dynasty Ruins in the Kamisra Mtns. Marta explained the fall of the Sylvaranti Dynasty and the importance of a central government to Sylvarant's liberation. There, they found an injured Thomas, who pointed out that Remoras were part of the problem. Before they could help him out and get him back to Palmacosta, Alice the sadist appeared once again and sicced her machine-controlled monsters on the group. Emil managed to defeat her, and then the biggest one turned on Alice and moved to attack.
Zelos interfered again, revealing his true identity as the Chosen of Tethe'alla and one of Lloyd's friends. He gave the kids the cold shoulder when they demanded to know of his whereabouts for the sake of revenge. Emil was nearly about to explode, but Marta reminded him that they could still find the source of all the storm troubles.
Their search led them to a whale-like beast (WITH TEETH) that Tenebrae noted as being highly territorial and dangerous. They fought it, but in the end it swallowed them, and they washed ashore...

They got directions from a dwarf and a weird green dog and went to Iselia, where they found out Lloyd was from. They hoped to find his whereabouts, but Emil threw a fit and yelled at Marta. Eventually they shoved aside the awkwardness and decided to go look for "Lloyd's apprentice", a kid named Paul, who got lost in the ruins of the Iselia human ranch. Emil was still mad though and went about for a bit in Ratatosk mode.
While he was possessed by Ratatosk, he made a stop on the Plane to look for an accessory that Emil had dropped in his carelessness. He had some bad conversations with... well, pretty much everyone, including nearly killing Mu for prodding and dropping out on the Master because he wouldn't shut the hell up.
Marta snapped Emil out of it, though, and onward they went.

Marta appeared on the Plane a little while afterward. Their plans were put to a temporary halt until they could find each other again, then it was business as usual. Emil made plans with a Jonathan Crane (handfulofstraw) who apparently cures fear, because he wanted to fight by himself, now that his situation had started to concern Mu and the others.
While Marta and Emil met up with Raine and Genis and sought a way past the monster in the Triet Ruins, Emil had his own plans. He allowed Crane to take a sample of his blood while he fought a monster in Ratatosk Mode, and almost turned on him, but managed to snap out of it right before he was able to strike the man. And this time, he didn't remember.
Actually, Emil didn't remember a lot. He appeared on the Plane at one point claiming he had no memory of himself or his name, but further conversation with other people revealed he knew a lot about his world. Odd, don't you think? That and he seemed so sure that Emil wasn't his name...

After many hours of fishing, Emil and Marta finally caught a monster that they could feed to the one sleeping in the ruins. They did so, and managed to beat Lloyd to Ignis' Core, but just barely. Genis and Raine demanded to know what he was doing but he couldn't answer them and left... but not before kicking Emil's ass. The fact that Lloyd had turned his back on his own friends stressed Emil out, and he decided revenge really wasn't a good reason to follow him anymore... Answers were.
Finally, they went off to Izoold, a town renowned for its seafood exports. But when they got there, something was burning...
