If you're from the UK and you believe in freedom of speech and an uncensored internet, you really need to sign this petition. There are others floating about, but that particular one is the best way to ensure that your voice gets heard. It's hosted on the directgov website and ( Read more... )

I'm from Poland and we fight against it stronlgly on Facebook and other social networks. Anonymous blocked few very important websites in my country such as Prime Minister site etc. Right now our Prime Minister has a meeting about ACTA and I hope he'll make a right decision.

Being from Germany I signed a german petition by now. I really hope it amounts to something!
I hadn't even heard about ACTA until last week, oddly enough.

Me too! I heard about SOPA first and after that ACTA become a real problem. I think the goverment has been making some secrets decisions since 2007 (that's what I heard somewhere) and normal citizens found out about it from other sources noy the goverment. I think it was Wikileaks.

Yes, it seems to have been all hush hush, otherwise I'm pretty sure my more political active friends on here would've talked about it sooner.
That secrecy really pisses me off. Wikileaks posted parts of it, I've heard, yes.

Dear god. D:

I keep thinking these people haven't got the foggiest how people use the internet nowadays. Like they're a bunch of old farts in their spacious offices who on the one hand occasionally get some printouts of emails handed to them, and on the other hand listen to what some media mogul whispers into their ears.

Jesus.

Just signed an online petition, too. Was the one you signed by any chance this one? I'm worried there are lots and I wanna be on all of them. :|

Exactly that. There's other ways to deal with the issue of piracy, this certainly isn't one. :/

The link's not working. I signed this one: http://www.stopp-acta.info/deutsch/werde+aktiv/e-petition/e-petition.html

I mean, usually, I'm not that mad at politicians and I don't actually think they are all big meanies, intend on putting 'the little man' down. But this one...? What I wrote above is honestly the only explanation I can come up with. D:

Don't they have like, people to talk to who can tell them what the internet actually is?? And that people won't start running to the stores to buy their precious dvd's that won't keep forever anyway once they've eradicated piracy (which they won't be able to anyhow)?

Lol okay. I somehow managed to fuck up the link but that's the one I signed too. :)

Yes, me neither, they're not the big bad wolf. But this is just ridiculous!

They should have or should consider to get some insight before doing this. It's mind boggling...

Can't edit and both my browsers are being ridiculously slow and awkward tonight, but I did find an international petition form against this, it's in my journal, if you want to post the link as well!:)

This whole internet problem is getting to everyone. I cannot believe that governments can be this ridiculous.

I signed a petition and letter that overseas folks could sign-that was against SOPA and PIPA. I pimped it at my LJ too. This is for UK folks no? I'll look around to see if overseas folks have a way of contributing too. Its all getting so out of hand now. :/

I wish it would be the joke it sounds like. :s

This petition, yes, but I posted it because it gives a good overview about what ACTA is. Most of us didn't even hear about it until the SOPA/PIPA protests. oO
