I’ve been reading the fragments of Sappho’s poetry (songs, really), translated by Anne Carson. They’re heartbreaking. Of 192 poems, only 1 has survived in completion. The rest vary, some are nearly complete, others are just a word. People have general blamed medieval church leaders for deliberately destroying her work, but it’s not really true
