so glad i am not alone. thing is, in this crazy PC world, if you complain, you are accused of racism. not at all, i cant imagine having to man a call centre in my second language, but really, banking services are sensitive. i cant help but think this is a cost saving measure that is going to backfire. already, other banks use the fact their call centres are here as a selling ploint!
Make a claim back on the charges a lot of peeps ahve been doing that recently and getting a nice little handy bundle back. Worth a try. One person got to claim back as far as a couple of years. *hugs*
You can legally go back 6 years. So far, no case that has got to court has lost. The banks know the charges are indefensible and Abbey are one of the worst of the lot. Transaction penalties are illegal. It's apparently in the terms of the Consumer Credit Act that no penalty for breach of contract (which is technically what unauthorised overdraft or bounced DD/cheque charges are) can be greater than the actual administrative cost of the breach. As everyone knows it does not cost £30 for a computer to issue a letter, they don't have a leg to stand on. They rely on the fact that the customer is aware of the charges when they open the account, but it's only as legal as being aware that your loanshark would charge you 5000000% interest - ie not.
There is a site somewhere with draft letters and stuff to do *rummages for link* Money Saving Expert

Your bank probably owe you thousands by now. Go get em.
And sorry about the fire. Do you want a contribution towards the "new fire" fund?
