Back around MFM I had plans. They changed significantly throughout the months, but the final destination was the same. I told a good handful of people these plans. Guess what? I did it.
Thank you! I'll should have high-quality professional pictures to post in a month or two showing off the face a bit more :) I am trying to nail that calm-alert look - I'm not a fan of the snarling, upset animals and prefer a much more peaceful scene.
I've been collecting skulls and hides since I was very little (found them in the woods and bought at re-enactments) so it was really organic just to move into trying taxidermy. My skull collection ranges from lions (one a captive pet, the other wild), giraffes, all the way down to muskrats and ermines.
I've done a lot of research and thinking about the ethics of harvesting animals and overall I have very few problems with it.
I will definately be at MFM! My Mom is going to have her own fursuit, even, so it might be a bit crazy.
I will agree on the talent part, not because I believe it (I can see so many flaws!), but because the sheer amount of people who said the same thing at the convention. It was sort of wild.
And I just might! I really want to dabble a bit more in other forms of taxidermy (I really want to make a pose-able "soft" mount and try my hand at making a headdress) but mostly I just want to do the animal justice and make it as alive as I know how.
Right now I just really need some repetition in doing stuff (turning ears is the main thing) so I get the hang of it more and screw it up less.
Also, Joy gave me the cornstarch packing peanuts from your toy box to Spook when I was visiting - the ratladies love those things.

And both, actually!
I've got a male mountain lion and a male African lion. My female African lion was 14 when she passed away and her owner said her name was Sheba.

It looks great in the photo.
I wish I were going to get to MFM this year, but that's not to be.
