Painting!

Michaels had some canvases on sale today so I decided to bust out the acryllics and try my first painting on canvas. Normally I just use my acryllics to paint little wood boxes, plastic guns, stuff like that. So for my first painting on canvas I decided to draw inspiration from one of my favorite artists, Eyvind Earle.

Thanks! I did the background myself... the tree I kinda copied from Eyvind Earle so I can try his style of contrast and shading. I've seen a lot of people doing tree silhouettes on colored backgrounds on Etsy, and I liked how Earle adds the white highlighting.

Thanks. :) I definately need to work on smoother lines, I'm used to drawing on a smaller scale. I want to make a smaller painting to hang in the guest bathroom but I haven't decided what to do yet. Because the acryllics are so opaque, I like the idea of a black silhouette over a colored background or something like a screen-printed look. I think black is too dark for the bathroom though, maybe I will do a white silhouette on a turquoise and yellow background.

Thanks for the tip on the book, I found it on Amazon:
