Title: Spacewreck
Characters: Yokoo, Fujigaya
Genre: AU, sci-fi, humour
Rating: PG
A/N: This was born from a game me and
un_sanzo created, in which we give each other a character, a setting and an object and we write something about that. Usually we use the first things we see reblogged on our Tumblr dashboards. Fun, isn't it? What I received from her were: Yokoo, space setting and an Academy Award statue. At first I was like "What the heck should I do with the Academy Award?!?" but then I started writing and this is the result. It's random, but I love space/sci-fi much more than I thought.
Wataru was looking at the stars from the front window of his spacecraft. He was leaning back on his pilot seat with his arms behind his neck, his legs stretched out and crossed over the steering wheel. The automatic pilot was driving the spacecraft at an incredible fast speed, as usual in space, but since the stars he was looking at were distant billions of light years, they actually seemed to move slowly in the background. Wataru was thinking about how life as a space carrier was boring, having to travel alone almost all the time. He knew many other space carriers were on the same route right now, he could have called one of them and have a conversation with a human for once, but he was in a contemplating mood that day, so he actually didn’t mind loosing himself in his thoughts.
After all, he was reaching "that" orbit and it was definitely something worth daydreaming about. Thousands of years ago, there was this tiny planet in the Solar System, and that was the place where the human race came from. It was called planet Earth or something like that. Now it wasn't there anymore, all that was left of it were debris.
He noticed the autopilot slowed down since they reached the destination, so he went back to sit properly and grabbed the handle to gain control of the ship.
Around him, nothing. No signs of the former planet to be seen. Not that he expected anything apart from scattered rocks, he knew there was almost nothing left of it, but somehow he felt nostalgic for a place that was the origin of the human race.
Suddenly he heard a metallic noise and the engines came to a halt.
The lights went off and it took what it looked like an eternity for the emergency system to switch on. Wataru waited patiently until the greenish lights turned on. As soon as they did, Wataru tried to press the buttons on the control panel of his spacecraft, but everything was dead. There wasn’t even energy to open the shutters that connected the control room to the rest of the small ship. Wataru was puzzled. He must have hit something and that something actually destroyed the electric system of the ship. He wondered how it was possible, since the electrical panel was securely placed behind the engine. Only something very small could have gone all the way there, not to mention it wasn’t even smashed by the propeller. Something small and lucky.
There wasn’t much else he could do by himself, the only hope was asking for help. Luckily before everything shut down he caught a glimpse of his space-radar and saw a pink light flashing nearby. He picked up the communication system when a voice came out of it unannounced before he even dialled the numbers of the right frequency.
“Oi, were you stunned by the beautiful view and stopped there to take a look?” said a sweet, low but still metallic voice.
“No jokes Fujigaya, seems like the old piece of iron is on the blink.” replied Wataru.
“AH AH how many times did I tell you to change that crappy thing? I bet you wish you had something as stunning as my Tinkerbell!”
“No way. My Spaceskate is orange!”
“That’s just paint! I had mine painted glittery pink! With all the advantages of a modern engine!” “Are you planning on coming to help or do you want to list all of your spacecraft characteristics first? I warn you, I might run out of air before you’re even done talking.”
“As long as the communication system works, for me it’s fine talking to a corpse.”
“Creepy.”
“I’m on my way!” Fujigaya cut off the communication with a smack and Wataru rolled his eyes before settling down to wait.
It wasn’t long before the lights switched on again. Fujigaya must have already connected his ship from the back emergency supplier. And there he was, waving at Wataru from the window. Not that he could see his face, as he was wearing the spacesuit, but the way he was waving was unmistakable. Wataru could actually picture the smiling face Fujigaya probably had behind the solar shield of his helmet. He smiled and got up to investigate the cause of the damage.
“Hi there!” said Fujigaya through the radio device of the suit. He could hear him loud and clear now, as if he was talking directly to him, not much of a metallic voice any more.
“Thanks for the help.”
“Anytime!”
“I’m going to check what happened and fix the problem.”
“I’ll go with you.”
They both floated till they reached the propeller. Wataru sneaked inside, after deciding it was safe to go. Taisuke trailed behind. They reached the location of the electrical system and noticed the protection grid wasn’t there.
“I’ll fucking kill that Nikaido next time!”
“You go to ‘Nisen Engines Troubles’ and expect they fix your ship? They are engines troublemakers!” laughed Fujigaya.
“What is this?” Wataru noticed something was stuck in the panel. He got hold of it and pulled it out, being careful not to cause any cable to tear apart. Fujigaya came closer curious as Wataru rolled the object in his hands.
“It looks like some kind of artifact.” he concluded.
“Maybe some of the rubbish from the Earth? You know, in the last years they started sending spaceships full of random stuff in outer space.” explained Wataru.
“But still, what is that for? It’s gold?” asked Fujigaya taking a closer look.
“I dunno, wait! There’s something written on it!”
Wataru rubbed away some dirt from what it looked like to be the pedestal of a little human statue and read aloud:
“Best movie: Titanic.”
“The hell is that?”
