As a Gemini, I have mixed feelings about this, just like everything else, lol. I think is some ways, it helps keep the spirit of the gods alive. Granted, it generally distorts them in some grand way, but it does open a door for more research by interested parties.

While there isn't a series at the level of popularity of Percy Jackson, have you read Runemarks? That's a pretty good one with a large cast of Norse deities, although I really hate what she did with Freyja.
I've been reading through Fetch and I'm not crazy about it and it's only tangentially related to the Gods but it revolves around rune lore and is very interesting to me as a result.
Now one of my favorites is a graphic novel called the Gods of Asgard which isn't a contemporary update per se but a graphic novelization of the Eddas.

While I do not always like the way they are portrayed, I do like the idea that people are being exposed to them. Their stories are able to live on in a way like this, and perhaps it might lead to interested individuals striving to learn more about mythology. My ex-husband played World of Warcraft, and I was absolutely tickled that there were so many references to Norse mythology in the game, even if the average player did not recognize them as such.
