Pilgrimages

Have you every embarked on a pilgrimage to a sacred or special site? If so where did you go? Did you observe any special rules to make it different from any other trip? How did you feel when you got to your destination? What did you do at the destination? How did you feel during and after the return journey

I have gone on many small pilgrimages, but none that were very organized. In two weeks, I'm going to India, not on a pilgrimage, per se, but there is certainly a spiritual element. I am going to visit as many temples as possible! I am also hoping to meet a specific Indian poet whom I really admire. I do have a feeling this journey (my first overseas) will change me profoundly. I'll let you know when I get back in September. :)

I never really got the point of pilgrimages. Rituals etc. are fascinating but I could never stick to them, is really the thing. I wasn't raised with that kind of mentality, or discipline--whatever you want to call it.

when I went to Spain, i discovered there is a Black Madonna in Montserrat, near Barcelona, and I lobbied for a pilgrimage there. it was the highlight of the trip[. We arrived on her Saint Day (april 28) and there was a wedding, a festival and farmers market.
