I don't know if its a sign that I am getting older and more cantankerous, or if the world is truely getting dumber and dumber. In fact things have gotten so idiotic and rediculous that I need to rant about it here.

When I first heard the term "compensation culture" it was a few years ago and was very scarce over here. I am in no way anti american,

omygod! I could've have written this rant myself! Every time I pick up a newspaper, read the news online or even drive from my house to the supermarket, I just end up fuming over the idiocy of the world!

All these regulations & "compensations": are they in place because the majority of people are complete morons? The answer seems to be YES! And of course it's worse since 9/11. Now the government (here, anyway) has a "legitmate" excuse for enacting even more controls against personal freedom. Now they can do it in the open!

And yes, sadly, much of the idiocy originates in the good ol' USofA (United States of Assholes).

My fantasy is to sterilize all the idiots, then ship them off to their own special moon colony.

Agreed, it'd have been a nonsense if that woman had won her case. What confuses me is that fencing was put up along the most exposed parts of that walk in the 90s. If she really did just bend down to retrieve a dropped Walkman, I just don't know how she fell off the cliff - where the edge is that close, there was already fencing before 2000.

Meddyg and I are also infuriated by this trend. Whenever we notice something stupid of that ilk, it has become our in-joke to bleat "'ealth and safeteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee". I work from home and I am just waiting for some idiot from the council to come and pronounce on what I, the company owner, should be providing for me, the sole employee. I suppose I need to start taking legal action against myself!

Hey, try not to bash the US too much, some of us are still yanks =) But yes, the silly warnings are a bit over the top. It's down to irresponsible breeding, like all the rest of the world's ills. Stupid people breed like mad, passing on their stupidity, the smart ones don't breed or breed very little and of course, aren't as prolific as the stupid ones.

One of the things I liked when I moved here in the 1990s was that Britain was less 'idiot-proofed' than the US, but it has changed... and become more idiot-proofed as the years have passed.

As to the silly person who dropped their device on the other side of the fence, why not squat down and reach under the fence to see if she could get it? And if not, then well, it's gone, tough luck! Throwing yourself over a fence is stupid.

But yes, your rant is something I relate to =) And in my dream world, we all take responsibility for our actions and the world is a much more peaceful place... oh well!
