am i wrong in my opinion that on a  young childrens tv channel that is based within the UK and is english spoken should be promoting good verbal skills? by this i mean that if it is english spoken, then it should be teaching good english grammar that is clearly understood?

We all know that language isn't static, it's constantly evolving, yes, even when we feel like it's DE-volving, it is in constant change. (Read Dickens if you want to see how much it's changed.)

But yes, good language skills should be essential, especially when your lad needs to find a job later on, being able to speak clearly and intelligibly is a very good habit to have.

It doesn't need to be 'posh', just intelligible =)

This is why I hate Teletubbies, it was 'baby talk', which is not what I want a child to be learning and why I dislike 'baby talk' by adults to children, it doesn't set a good example.

But I'm not a mother, though I am an aunt and I find myself appalled by the poor speech skills exhibited by my sister's children.

So, you're not wrong, just trying to be a decent parent. It might be good to pre-record certain television programs and edit out the crappy commercials or anything unwanted and let your lad view that with you. Unsupervised television is always a bad idea and the younger the child, the more damage it can ( ... )
