Tony! Tony! Tony!

So, yeah, I know I'm late to the party and all, but I finally got to see the Tonys last night! When NPH was talking about how surreal it was to be hosting the Tonys, after growing up watching them, I teared up. The Tony Awards are special to me because, like NPH said, it's the one time a year I get a glimpse into the theatre scene in NYC, which I ( Read more... )

I agree totally. I thought they wasted him, and I was angry when the music would start to come in during speeches - like the Lifetime Tony one? Please.

I know nothing about the revival of Hair, only the revival of WSS, which I had expected to win, so yeah, that was a shock.

We were all completely unimpressed by the number from Shrek. However, I am now dying to get a CD of Next to Normal simply because of the one number. Outstanding vocals and acting!

Yeah, I don't think the revival of Hair is really all that different from its original production, aside from just being a better, more contemporary version of what's been done before. It seemed to me like a major snub to Arthur Laurents.

The only thing impressive about Shrek is Christopher Sieber's ability to dance on his knees for 8 performances a week. Ugh.

I'm excited to listen to my Next to Normal CD. I think it'll be really good.

I'm sure highlighting the tours thing was a "hey, you don't have to be in New York to see Broadway" idea, bring people into it or something.

We were all pretty O_o? at all of Alice Ripley's yelling.

Can't wait to hear what you thought of the CRs you got. :)

Yeah, I'm sure that's what they were going for, but still...?

I felt embarrassed for her. She was trying to do this powerful speech and it just fell flat. Terrible. Andrew was on the computer while I was watching it and when she started her speech, he was all "WTF is her issue?" Bleh.

I'll let you know!

Definitely time better spent on other things, for sure.

I follow Tom Lenk's twitter. His comment was "Why is Alice Ripley mad at me? She's yelling at me through the TV!"

OMG... just read that Bret Michaels (or at least, his people) are pissed that nobody warned him about the set piece he hit during the show and that nobody was fawning over him after. "If it was Elton John or Liza Minelli, it would be different" is the statement. He's probably going to sue.

Yeah, the guy screwed up. The rest of the freaking band was on the stage and had cleared the set piece; he was just being a ham and wasn't where he was supposed to be. Granted, the Stage Manager should have halted the piece as soon as he/she saw something, but maybe it was too late/too difficult to stop once in motion? I don't know. And yes, they probably would have made a bigger deal about it if it had been a theatre legend...but it wasn't. Is that fair? No, probably not. So cry me a freaking river, Bret. Sheesh.

Speaking of mishaps, what was with all of the sound problems??? Yikes!

It was a "half-ton" piece, supposedly, that "narrowly missed" squashing him underneath.

Seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if the folks on the sound board got their walking papers after that.
