Ok so I am reading this book called Biting Anorexia by Lucy Howard-Taylor and there are a few things why it pisses me off.
1. TOTAL WASTED RIP OFF. Like, the writing style closely imitates Marya Hornbacher's at points, and there are two parts that I've read so far where a phrase has basically been lifted out of that book ( Read more... )

Woot, time to start taking over the world, one publishing house at a time, with my trusty cupcake-bearing Rackelle by my side.

Another annoying thing is that throughout the entirety of the book she uses '-kilograms' and '-BMI' instead of giving numbers. Which is a good thing, because numbers can be triggering to most of the people reading these kinds of books, but it's really sloppily done.

Hah. being addicted to memoirs like that, I have definitely read my fair share of people cashing in on a good thing. Or not so good, really, because even the good ones are mostly just people who don't have anything to write about, even though their memoirs are good and they are talented (eg, Elizabeth Wurtzel, whose only non-memoir novel was written when she was completely high most of the time, and yes, you can tell).

Anyway, I want to read this regardless. Because it will bring the lolz.

You know how I love Elizabeth Wurtzel ^_^ I think I couldn't finish Bitch because I wasn't high enough, actually.

But yeah, say on a tier of published authors writing about mental illness, you have the acknowledged goddesses Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath at the peak, with Elizabeth Wurtzel and Marya Hornbacher the next step down, maybe even Victoria Leatham as well who wrote an excellent book about SI, the other masses at the bottom of the ladder and this book BURIED IN THE DIRT.

I will lend it to you forthwith, it's an incredibly quick read since it's about 200 pages of size 12 font.

Dude, I had to stop and post a rant on livejournal halfway through reading it... and that was after I spent a few hours alternating a few chapters with some Stephen King. The rage >:O
