Nobody /
Somebody Personality: As one of the first six known Nobodies, Zexion is accordingly distanced from the experience of having a Heart at all -- it has been nine years since he last had a reminder, after all. It is debatable how much this has affected his actual expressiveness and personality, although it is a fact that normal Nobodies rely more on the memory of feelings than on the real ability to feel them -- what is certain is that he is serious about getting that Heart back.
What we know of his original persona, Ienzo, suggests that the knack for research and planning and talking circles around people hasn't changed (Cloaked Schemer is his working title, after all). Ienzo was also one of the more enthusiastic (and somewhat less cautious) of Ansem the Wise's apprentices, if his role as the main advocate for building a specialized laboratory for risky experiments on darkness in the human heart is any indication. The fact that he was the youngest of the apprentices at Radiant Garden supports this (as well as the fact that he's uncommonly intelligent, of course), and was probably a factor in developing the work ethic that Zexion essentially manipulates Roxas into in 358/2 Days -- work to exceed expectations if you want to earn respect.
This sense of purpose comes across in a number of his interactions spanning both games he appears in. He is seen admonishing Xigbar for slacking off (seniority notwithstanding) when the latter tries to draw him into a conversation speculating about their leader's motives; moreover, he seems reluctant to question Xemnas, although this could just be his personal unwillingness to deal with his senior(s) or unnecessary politicking. He seems, however, to have some sense of duty and loyalty to the Organization's cause -- believes in Xemnas' master plan of reuniting them with their Hearts by creating Kingdom Hearts in the sky.
While there are indeed holdovers from his memories as a Somebody in his Nobody's behavior, Zexion is also a lot more conservative with his schemes (rightfully so, considering the first big one lost him his own Heart and destroyed his home world) while exhibiting a quiet but clinical ruthlessness in executing them. (Now that he's lost life and limb as well, he'll probably have to come up with some happy medium or re-evaluate his methods, at least.) He demonstrates no qualms about the Organization's day-to-day activities of systematically profiting off the devouring of worlds and their peoples by the Heartless -- all in the name of completing Kingdom Hearts; doesn't bat an eye at manipulating children and colleagues as long as they have something to contribute, be it a Keyblade or a witch's power or simply cannon fodder (unfortunately for Vexen) -- and then disposing of them (or attempting to) once they're no longer useful; coldly corrects for failures in the overall plan, whether it be a takeover plot or the deaths of his associates (gallows humor seems to be up his alley, too, as long as it concerns someone else getting hung). It is also worth noting that he does not regret taking the leap to investigate the mysteries of the Heart -- just the unfortunate side-effects for himself. The only emotions he lets slip out of his control are surprise and fear in the face of defeat and death.
The keyword is control: he has a hand in the majority of movements from the basement of Castle Oblivion. Zexion is principally a mage and a research specialist, fond of predictable environments and letting others get their hands dirty, rather than a fighter -- a fact underlined by his slight build, high affinity for magic, and the low position of his seat in the Organization's Round Room, suggesting that he prefers the laboratory to field work. (The seats' heights are apparently set according to the number of field missions successfully completed by each member.) Unfortunately, he ends up caught up in his own schemes; having overestimated his control over and knowledge of the situation, and underestimated his opponents. It's not the first time he's committed the former -- it remains to be seen just how much he'll have learned, this time.
What your character can offer: As aforementioned, Zexion is a specialist in magic, with an emphasis on illusions, as well as a highly intelligent research scientist. Physically, according to 358/2 stats, he is one of the Organization's weakest, but his magical ability is second to none. (Unfortunately, it looks like this won't be too helpful to him in Discedo for the time being.)
His memory is likely above-average, if not eidetic, judging by his mastery of illusioncraft. He is able to make concrete, temporary copies of himself (up to three have appeared in canon) and functioning imitations of the weapons and abilities of his enemies -- he was able to recreate Riku's Soul Eater and even the light-based properties of Sora's Keyblade. He is also able to drastically alter his appearance, although this seems to be a general property of those tainted by darkness.
The weakness in his web lies in the fact that a large part of his magicks and skills is focused on his summoned weapon: the Book of Retribution, which is a large, hardbound...
book. His illusions also only last as long as disruptions to the Book's integrity or his concentration do not occur. He and the Book can also move independently of one another (although he does have to keep track of and kinetically direct the Book); moreover, he is occasionally able to trap his enemies inside the Book itself, transporting them to an alternate dimension full of, well, more books. The Book exists in this dimension as well and presents the same weakness -- find and attack it and the spell will be broken.
Without any of Zexion's magic to complement it, the Book has the following properties:
1. Fine literature
2. Use as a blunt weapon without any apparent harm to the Book unless it comes into contact with other objects of power; harm is not lasting, since it is a Nobody's weapon
3. Can absorb and deflect attack to a limited degree; the same limitations as #2 apply
Aside from that, his one other somewhat unique ability allows him to sense -- or, apparently, scent -- powers or presences related to darkness over long distances. This is a trait shared by several others in the series, but apparently not by his colleagues in the basement of Castle Oblivion; so it may not be a generalized property of Nobodies, or at least not as well-developed in most of them. This sense cannot, seemingly, detect regular powers or beings of light, such as the Keyblade Master; it can also be deceived or guarded against (see next section for details).
His other powers are generic to all the higher-ranking Nobodies of Organization XIII: the ability to create Corridors of Darkness that can warp them to a location of their choosing; the ability to command Dusks and some other lesser Nobodies; and, to a limited extent, influence over the Heartless (which side with the strongest dark power or will on the battlefield; moreover, Nobodies do not have to fear their Hearts being taken in the process since they no longer have one).
What items will they be bringing with them?
• x1 Book of Retribution, now no longer a summons
• x1 Organization black ensembleTM: includes hooded coat, gloves, pants and boots
Special Properties: Protects the wearer from being eroded and eventually consumed by darkness as well as, to a degree, detection by sight or scent -- but not by hearing. Useful for navigating Dark Corridors.
• x1 Rubik's Cube
• x0.5 Wire puzzle
