PERSONALITY
Zexion is aloof, but not anti-social. As a puppet master of sorts, he simply can't be the kind of person that recoils into darkness all day. He often puts himself into the social scene only enough to study the people around him and then will pursue individuals, who he deems worth his time, in ways that will tie them to his will without them knowing. He's no one's 'best friend' but he is the kind of person most people respect and smarter people fear. His plans are often made in a veil of secrecy, pushing people along without them knowing the full plan.

Because of his huge ego, when dealing with other people Zexion can get carried away with his own illusions and end up controlled by what he originally had complete control over. So when he creates a false emotional persona, he can get caught up in and drowned in his false emotions of anger or such. When his plans do come crashing down, usually it is catastrophic for him because his ego won't let him retreat even when he should.

He is often seen smirking or even grinning, showing that although he goes along with the theory that the Nobodies have no emotions, he has (falsely) emotional reactions to events. The full reason for his emotional reactions is a combination of being affected by his understanding of the human psyche, his vague memories of past emotions, and his false persona, built to manipulate others around him.

Zexion is a very well-read Nobody, which is shown through his speech, his habits, and even his weapon--which is a Lexicon. Being so well-versed in the humanities is not a requirement of his former position as a scientist apprentice, but it shows that he is well rounded in his learning.

As a puppet master, he is very patience, bidding his time until the moment is right, but this also shows in his dealings with others where he can patiently explain things until his 'student' understands the lesson fully. Along with being patient, he is also very polite, in an almost backhanded way, most of the time. The polite act is merely an act, however, and underneath it he is quite the jerk to people--sometimes without them even realizing.

Before the Organization began its decline, Zexion showed that while he was mildly loyal, he was also willing to do whatever it took to fulfill his missions, abandoning his posts for his own gain when it became clear the Organization was falling.

ABILITIES
Zexion has power over the domain of illusion and so can disguise himself as others, even to the point where he can recreate their weapons and powers--although obviously not in their full force. He can also disguise whole areas and items to trick others. His weapon is a Lexicon called the Tome of Judgment, which he can use to trap people within the pages, but also use as a base to make clones of himself to attack his enemies.

One of his stranger abilities is the power to 'sense' the identities of people by their 'scent', which is not that he literally smells them but rather he interprets their auras through his sense of smell. Going along with this, Zexion has a very powerful sense of smell, which could be easily used against him.

Like all the Nobodies of the Organization, Zexion can summon the lesser Nobodies and the Heartless which are sided with the Organization (if they are around). As a Nobody, he also lacks a heart an so can bend the Darkness to his will without fear of it consuming him. He uses the Darkness to teleport, bridging the places in space with tunnels of Darkness and Nothingness.

DEALING WITH: LACK OF CONTROL
The thing about Zexion is that he's always, always plotting and scheming. Even when he's not in control of the situation, he likes to push buttons (literally or figuratively) to put his own interests first.

For example, when he's ordered to go to Castle Oblivion, he senses the end of the Organization coming (another thing he can't control) so he begins making plans to set himself up with enough power to withstand the collapse of the Organization.

It's best not to think of it as "he can't have control," when you can think of it as "how does his situation benefit him?" Zexion isn't one to let the shifting of waves overwhelm him, even when he's spiraling completely out of control. Even when Riku beats him, he still manages to get away, and it's very obvious when he first sees Axel and Repliku, that he's already plotting a way to get Riku back within his grasp or at least put himself back into a measure of power. His real mistake is not realizing Axel was smarter than Zexion had thought, not that he was actually letting the out of control situation get to him. His weakness is his pride, not his willpower.

This is not to say he doesn't lose his cool. It's also very obvious that Zexion is caught off guard by Axel and Repliku in that scene, but you see what it took to get him to that point. Zexion deals with teaching Roxas, the annoying and derptastic Nobody that Roxas is at the beginning of Days, without breaking a sweat or yelling at him. He calmly explains things, and reexplains things as Roxas needs, making Zexion a perfect teacher, with a boat load of patience. Zexion is the cat that sits for hours in front of the mousehole, listening for the mouse to fall into his trap. He is also a Nobody, and has taken that to heart, so he doesn't display extreme emotions easily. He may be annoyed after the seventh time he has to explain something, or when he gets dragged along to places, but he most likely won't display that easily or consciously.

Continuing on the idea Zexion is getting dragged places he doesn't want to go, probably with people he doesn't want to go with, it's a good idea to assume Zexion has a reason for socializing with anyone. Be it he wants their powers on his side and is only talking to them to form an alliance (or trick them into thinking he's their 'friend' and using that false friendship to get them to do his bidding) or if he knows that they know something he wants and he's being cozy to get that information. That doesn't mean that eventually Zexion won't become actual friends with them, but that he most likely won't start out with that in mind. Going from there, being dragged places with people, it's probable Zexion will be annoyed at first at being uprooted from his plans, but he can always make new ones. Try to think of how the trip can benefit the Nobody, whether he can get something from the store he needed to get, or that the impromptu trip can be used to get close to someone he's manipulating.
