propaganda, pure and simple, though i wonder about the filmmakers choice of comparing the US to sparta, in our current situation the roles are much reversed

Or you could not relate everything to the war and take the movie for what it is.. a brilliantly delivered war film on the historic event of the battle of Thermopolae (with some artistic liscence).
