I do not agree with the two previous comments. They explain away the father's inability to communicate with the child. If a child runs in the car's way, it is always possible to restrain them.

I think the only factor that makes it easy for people to spank children is that they are small and cannot threaten in response.

There must be a reason why adults consider hitting each other worse than impolite and the offenders may be reported to the authorities.

Note that children as victims would not be able to report the assaults themselves.

Also, what kind of lesson it is when a parent spanks the child? Does this imprint aggression down to the next generation?
