Drabble - Night's Nocturne

Go to sleep my darling, close your little eyes.
Angels are above us, peeping through the skies.
Your heavenly voice, humming the gentle melody, is accompanied by the soft glows of the moon and twinkling stars. Through the open window, the curtain sways in the warm summer breeze and I watch you breathlessly as you stroke my cheeks. I am always wondering how it is possible that you are mine.
'Jaejoong-ah,' I whisper.
'Hmm?' your eyes are lit with curiosity and you place your hand idly on my arm, running your fingers along my skin, climbing up and down, as if playing the piano.
I smile and continue to gaze at your perfection, 'Nothing.'
You let loose a chuckle and place a kiss on my forehead. You continue to hum the lullaby, the leading soprano on stage; I am your audience, every note you sing, I breathe in like oxygen.
'Go to sleep now,' you whisper when you finish. I take one last look at you before I close my eyes. 'Sweet dreams, Yoochun.'
'Good night, Jaejoong,' I say.
'Good night, my love.'

And that sweet lullaby you sang to me in the middle of the night to shake my fears away still plays for me on my headphones. I replay it over and over when you're not there to do so. The recording doesn't sound the same, doesn't hold the purity of your voice, doesn't cure my ache for you. It holds static and the notes are harsh. It isn’t you. But this will have to do for now, and I will wait for your return.
I look up into the sky and wish upon the first and brightest star I see.
I wish for you, to come back safely by my side, and never leave again.
