I decided to run a marathon as a 30th birthday present to myself. This is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever done. Like, colossally mind-numbingly stupid. And, having told practically everyone in my life about it and paid the registration fee, it is too late to back out

Thank you for the pep talk, Rory. I am pretty sure that this is not really about physical abilities and totally all about self-doubt. Which is hard! Self-doubt is sneaky and overwhelming! The whole point of this is to do hard things, though, so maybe it's all part of the process.
