do you stretch before going out and take breaks to sit and stretch? remember the stretches we did in dance in high school? i imagine the hamstring ones would help, unless, of course, your hamstrings aren't the parts bothering you. in any case, i think stretching is highly underrated.
The cramping should also get a lot better after a week or so, once you are used to the walking. But you probably know that. In the mean time, I suggest heat. Hot bathes, if you have a tub. Or a heating pad. Or those microwaveable bean bag thingies. 'Cause, as I was telling my boyfriend and his back pain last night, heat is my solution to everything:p But it does seem to help with a lot of things. At least for me.
