[He set up his things near the river just outside the forest. Towering trees held back by calm waters created a soothing backdrop, allowing him to focus on the scene itself instead of the memory. He captured the scenery in his mind, and translated it into pigments and brush strokes. He gave his hand free reign, letting it thicken the paint in some

Of course, Sai snuck off before she could give it to him, so she just walked around the forest calling his name loudly. Though Tenten can't see him, Sai can probably recognize the high pitched wail from Tenten that seems to be having a yelling match with mother nature, and winning. ]

[Who was calling him? His brows knitted together, as he set his brush down, wiping his hands on a paint cloth. A moment later, he heard her yelling again, recognizing her voice this time.]
Tenten?
[He stood up and turned in the direction he'd heard her holler. She was as loud as Sakura, he noted as he walked off to find her.]

Sai-!? Saaaaaaai?! Where are you, damn it-! [ As she brushes past a bush, she sees herself standing directly across from Sai. With her concealment of Sai's gift she just nervous blurts out in an attempt to distract him. ]
Sai! Hey! It's nice to see you!

[The loud yell caught him off guard for a moment, as he blinked at her in surprise. She was very loud. But the pause only lasted a moment, before he was hollering just as loud as she was as he mimicked her words.]
Tenten! Hey!
[He stepped forward, smile bright.]
It's nice to see you!

It's not until said building is out of sight that he realizes he was so wrapped up in his thoughts that he missed the turn entirely. How. Troublesome. But it's as he turns to make his way back that he spots a figure by the river.]
Yo, Sai.

[His hand stopped mid-stroke as he turned toward the familiar voice.]
Shikamaru. [He smiled.]
You're not dead.

[No way he'd die out there. Mostly a few scrapes and bruises, though his wrist is busted judging by the awkward way he's holding it bu his side. It was looked at before he came back, though, so he's in no rush. He walks over.]
What're you working on?

[An easy injury to spot, especially when he was holding it so awkwardly.]
A picture. [He answered off-handedly, as his eyes stayed on his hand.] You're hurt.

It'd been to the east of him when he'd started that morning. He remembered having to prop the canvas in front of him to shield his eyes from the glaring rays.]
A few hours. [He looked back at her.] Since this morning. [He clarified.]

That calls for a detour. So he jumps down from a tree, aiming to land a bit away behind Sai.] Oi, Sai! What're you up to?

[[He slides off his seat, letting him take a better look at the piece. The background captures a lush forest devastated by a large crater. Smoke billows through the air and behind the central figure in the emerging painting.
A male with gray hair wearing the same outfit as Sai stands in the midst of the chaos. His body slowly disintegrates into the wind, yet his eyes are upturned, and a happy smile graces his lips as he faces the viewer.
In the foreground near the edge of the canvas, the half sketch of a book lies open on the ground can be seen.]
