I love this!

It smells like mildew and lady’s perfume, the heavy kind that the old ladies who come to wish his mother good luck and then whisper about her from the other side of the room wear.

Very powerful. Great last line as well, about his hands.

Still loving all of this, bb. That last line still gets me. It's so perfect. And I will glady shoulder any blame for this. I would love to see more of the family; I know it's unrelated to like, the major point, but the family dynamic is really appealing to me.

thank you so much, bb! yeah, the last line, when i wrote it it kind of brought everything together -- i tend to write without much of a plot in mind, so when i get to the finish i actually have my own oh moment, haha. AND I AM SURE THERE WILL BE MORE FIC I CAN BLAME ON YOU IN THE FUTURE, because i adore this family myself (and now really want to write backstories for other guys! i'd love to have headcanon of everyone's families and friends. did you know that spina came from a family of thirteen children? /dies. and luz from a family of ten? - which, with luz, totally helped my headcanon for his kind of, unassumingly caretaking nature at times - like with lip when he's ill - because i think of him as perhaps having been somewhere in the middle with all the kids, and being used to just naturally taking care of younger siblings without thinking much of it.)

The last line really does bring it all together perfectly, past and future. (I did not know that Spina was one of 13, but I did know about Luz, but I think, yes, it totally explains the whole blanket-using-comforting move applied by both of them.)

Overly belated comment is belaaated~

But I really do like this. I like how still it feels; it feels like Doc Roe does with all this guilt and anger and such running underneath but not really visible on the surface. You know (waves hands) you look at Eugene's face and there's nothing there but you know everything is just eating at him under it and uh
