here 1. I’ll put a spell on you,
It’s simple - a loop, a twist, a knot; you’ve been tying your own damn shoes since you were six, and there’s no excuse when you fumble the laces. But - “Need help?” and even though you can do it yourself, (you’re not a kid) you let him crouch down, tongue between his teeth as his hands work. Loop, twist, knot.
“Thanks,” you say. And this really does nothing for your image - they already call you the magnae, already want to take care of you - but he smiles back at you (and it breaks the icy veneer of his features) so somehow it’s okay.
“Onstage in five,” a technician warns, and your body goes hot and cold all at once. The turning point of your life in five, he should’ve said. Debut.
4. I’ll be the first thing you see,
“I’ll put a spell on you.” Jaejoong says, each word intent and careful. His tone catches your attention, subtle - like little secrets and favorite phrases spilling from his throat.
Your book shuts with a thump. You’re supposed to be studying, not watching him pick at the patterned sheets in little sporadic motions. “Hyung, what?”
He laughs, and then, looking like he tasted laughter for the first time, he just keeps on going. Junsu and
Yunho start up from where they’re sitting in the living room, the TV spouting some comic relief that you can’t hear and frankly don’t give a shit about. You can’t study like this.
“I’m going to the other room.” Jaejoong just keeps laughing (you sneer at him) and even when you’ve closed the door behind you and there’s quiet, you can’t get the sound out of your ears.
2. You’ll fall asleep and I’ll put a spell on you,
It’s too late or too early (you’re too tired to be technical). The language of your own thoughts feels foreign - on all sides there’s Japanese now; it’s on the food, in the books, sinking into the ground and seeping through the walls.
You feel a little crazy, a little antsy, and when you think to check in to your feelings, you know you’re lonely. It hurts.
By accident (really, really you just couldn’t see right in the dark) you end up slipping into Jaejoong’s sheets.
The feel of body heat close to yours is toxic, burning you and making you forget your fears. Jaejoong’s hand closes around you arm. “’Min?”
“Don’t tell,” you whisper. He doesn’t.
3. And when I wake you,
Jaejoong was doing something stupid and you shoved him - nothing out of the ordinary, but now you’re thinking maybe you went to far because he’s lying on the couch and he hasn’t gotten up. What’s wrong, you’re about to say, but he’s shaking and suddenly you realize -
You were really worried and that jerk is laughing.
He nearly chokes as you pounce on him, but that’s pay back and you’ve got him pinned to the couch (his breathing fast and obvious against your lips, so close that his tongue darting out to wet his lips nearly catches your own). He’s opening his mouth like he’s going to say something, and then Junsu shouts from the front door.
Jaejoong’s not one to pass up distractions, and suddenly he’s twisting out from beneath you and tumbling towards the hall, calling back, “Dinner? Want dinner?”
5. And you’ll realize you love me.
Every new stage is just the same and too different from the stage before. But every time, every single time your voice rises and flows and harmonizes to four others - the only voices you’d give anything to be able to sing with (always).
The end of the concert, with the last cheers dying out; backstage is sweat and exhaustion and exhilaration.
Jaejoong breaks into a smile and you’re both high from the sensation of pouring out your souls through the rise and fall of music notes. He hugs you and - oh, you never want to let go. You grab him tighter and tighter and the meaning must get across because his smile is breaking (you’re scared, you’re fumbling) and suddenly he’s touching your cheek.
“Don’t tell.” You whisper. He kisses you.
