Why feminism is still important

Today in the lovely, local, gigantic McKay's Used Books, I saw this book of poetry written by "indie" musicians.  As it only came out in 2003, there is simply no excuse that I can think of that in 200 pages of poetry, there are NO WOMEN REPRESENTED.  I saw online that there's a second volume, that seems to have four women in it--out of 75 total ( Read more... )

Try being a woman in game design. Good Lord. I'm lucky there are so many cool non-sexist guys in my particular office. One of our designers was repeatedly mistaken for a hired booth babe at a convention a couple of years ago.

I bet. In sixth grade, I did career day at my dad's office in Georgia Tech. I spent time with one of the women in his office who was a computer engineer--she gave me a lovely introduction to sexism 101, when we went to buy some sort of cable. She pointed out the incredible condescending attitudes she had to deal with in the store--but she also pointed out the brand new Transam that she was driving, which the guys in the store were not!
