My dad just left after a wonderful visit. It was the most time we've concentratedly spent together in many years and it was great. I feel like it was a great way to have a vacation, and I really like hanging out with Alex and my dad.  We hiked a bunch, talked at length about house projects, saw challenging and good movies, ate tremendous food(in ( Read more... )

I'm really looking forward to seeing the film Let the Right One In. Are you saying the book is good as well?

I think film titles can also be italicized, but I could be wrong. I've not read the book, but honestly I'm more in a hurry to read The Reader, if I want a book whose film adaptation I've recently seen.

How are you?

I am, unfortunately, miserable. I took a job so I could pull in some money, but I don't think this particular job is worth it. I recently drew a graph to track the correlation between Days on the Job and Times I Think About Pulling Into Oncoming Traffic. I'm looking for a new job.

Beyond that, I am also awaiting a response from the interview I had in Baltimore last week. I really want that job, and I should have heard back yesterday if anything is going to happen with it.

Today, however, is my weekend. So Briana and I are going to the Dallas Museum of Art, and we're going to drop by one of my old theatres.

I've been on a non-fiction kick myself lately, and I've been reading some great books. The Tao of Pooh, Phantoms in the Brain, and How to Break a Terrorist. All these have been part of research I'm doing for a fiction piece I've been working on: Age of Identity.

I'm trying to find little things to be happy about since I'm not getting any of the big things so far.

Oh you make me hungry for a good hike - two more weeks and I get a little free time again. hmmmmm

glad to hear about the wonderfuls in your life. My parents are coming out in a couple weeks and I'm trying to figure out "activities" for the visit - though I'm sure I'm over thinking it.

Having some activities in mind is never a bad idea, but parents tend to be a pretty open and forgiving audience. Good luck, I'm sure you'll show them wonderful places and things.

Klezmer Kats?

Yeah, they are a local Klezmer band with a little bit of gypsy and jazz sound in their Klezmer, it's great. They played at Volta for the Art Walk. I'd show you a link but there are multiple bands that come up when one searches the band name. They are pretty great though, probably my favourite local group now. And I've made coffee for at least 4 of their members.

JD, Kara, and I caught some of the Klezmer Kats last night too! He is emailing them to see if they need a cellist. So much fun. About what time were you there?

I just missed you guys evidently because I ran into Kara on my way in. She suggested a picnic with you and JD and she and I (and possibly Alex), I think that could be smashing!

I support this picnic idea, but would prefer it be a no boys allowed event :]

I think I could certainly handle that. It will probably be easier to schedule with fewer people as well. How are weekend afternoons for you this weekend?
