This is one of the biggest issues I have with academia, and why I don't want to pursue any further education...the insane bureaucracy. All the stupid hoops to jump through and the potential for one link in the chain to mess up your chances of moving ahead forever, sometimes.

Ugh, I can relate. Grad school requires determination, but even determination is of little help if one can't summon the emotional and mental energy to push through weeks of self-denial and overwork.
