pondering queerness and activism (like every other day)

So, lately queerness has come up a lot in the media and in my experience of social media. Coming Out day was recently and lots of my friends were very gung ho about coming out... as allies. Thanks for this. A bunch of my friends did the facebook thing, coming out as allies, and I really really wanted to come out as queer and kinky myself...but you're right, it really is complicated. I couldn't blithely change my picture to rainbow colors and caption it "Bi-sexual" or "masochist" as easily as they posted "ally" and I was a little jealous.

It's easy for people to say "I'm not X... but I support your right to be!!". Sometimes it feels right up there with the "Oh I have X friends ( ... )

Your comment really made me think, about risk and repercussions to "allies." I don't disagree with you, but I think there are allies out there who do gladly accept the repercussions, which may be small or large, depending on many factors ( ... )
