J has a few of his friends around. They cleared the living room and were praying when I got in from shopping. All 6 of them on their mats. I apologised and asked if it was OK to bring my shopping through to the kitchen

sfair, the injunction upon the faithful is to face mecca - no, the arabian city of that name *g* - so it is possible that facing in either direction upon a great circle route encompassing the locations of both mecca and the supplicant suffices; and, as god is merciful, so s/he will doubtless take into consideration the intent; elsewise, the would-be observant faithful might suffer severe indecisiveness at the northern and southern extremities of the earth similar to that of a securely-mounted compass immediately above a a strong north, or south, magnetic pole...
as to whether it is better to repent your sins early and often, or to save them all up to repent of them in one fell swoop just before you die, this severely-lapsed agnostic deponent knoweth not.
